Abstract

As part of our study of potential atypical antipsychotic agents,] the synthesis of 3-methyl-6- chloromethyl benzothiazolin-Zone (4a) and benzoxazolin-Zone (4b) previously prepared by Carato et al., I was reported as shown in Scheme 1. The 3-methyl derivatives (la and lb) were formylated using hexamethylenetetramine in polyphosphoric acid (PPA), 2.3 to give compounds 2a and 2b which were then reduced to the corresponding alcohols 3a and 3b. ...
