Abstract
LiAlHd RO (CH2) zCN ___f ROH+ I< O (CH~) JSH:, f C! &CH~ CIILS€ IL propionitriles has show11 that the cleavage is general and occurs with an evolution of hydrogen. The general instability of fi-alkoxypropionitriles to heat and aqueous base is well known. 2 Moe, Miller and Buckley3 have reported that cleavage at the ether linkage resulted when the hydrolysis of the P-cyanoethyl ethers of certain polysaccharides was attempted in alkaline solution. ...
