Abstract An efficient and environmentally benign procedure for the catalytic esterification of salicylic acid with aliphatic alcohols, C n H 2n+ 1 OH (n= 1–5) and benzylic alcohols, RC 6 H 4 CH 2 OH (R= H, NO 2, OCH 3, Br, Cl, Me) was developed using nano-SiO 2-supported Preyssler heteropolyacid both under thermal conditions and microwave irradiation.
