Abstract

Known syntheses of benzoxazoles and other annulated oxazoles include the thermal dehydration of o-acylaminophenols 6 (eq 1), the Beckmann rearrangement of oximes of o-hydroxybenzophenones 6 (eq 2), oxidative ring closure of phenolic Schiff bases 7 (eq 3), and reactions of o-aminophenols with cyanogen bromide 6 (eq 4) or benzil 8 (eq 5).
