Abstract

Methyl and benzyl ethers have been cleaved with a combination of reagents consisting of chlorotrimethylsilane and acetic anhydride containing a catalytic amount of concentrated sulfuric acid. Methylthiomethyl ethers yield the corresponding acetoxymethyl ethers with chlorotrimethylsilane and acetic anhydride.
