Abstract

Although the unsubstituted benzoquinone diimine (IC) could not be isolated in crystalline form, conversion of the crude oil to the stable HC1 adduct (4h) proceeded in satisfactory yield (75%). Rapid chromatography, which enabled purification of the sensitive 2- chlorobenzoquinone diimine lh, was not attempted with the brominated unsubstituted benzoquinone diimine IC.
