Abstract

The polarographic reduction of stilbene, naphthalene, phenanthrene, biphenyl, a-terphenyl, m-terphenyl, diphenylacetylene and phenylacetylene in diinethylformarnide containing tetra- n-butylammonium iodide as a supporting elect1 olyte, has been carried out. The results point to the formation of monovalent anion-free radicals as intermediates in thc reduction of the first seven hydrocarbons. Substantiation for the mechanism of reduction was obtained ...
