Abstract
Protiva, Coli. Czech. Chem. Co”., 24, 3955 (1959). in satisfactory yields. This procedure was preferred to that in the literature requiring hydriodic acid and was in fact the only method available for the reduction of 3, 4-dime thoxybenzalphthalide. The cyclodehydrations of the 2- (phenethy1) benzoic acid were effected in good yields by heating in a polyphosphoric acid medium.
