Abstract
The carboxylation of propargyl alcohol with stoichiometric quantities of nickel carbonyl and with carbon monoxide in the presence of catalytic amounts of nickel carbonyl has been accomplished. Carboxylation of propargyl alcohol in ethyl alcohol at 55'with stoichiometric quantities of nickel carbonyl followed by esterification of the resulting products gave a 58% yield of ethyl a-(hydroxymethy1) acrylate (IV) and, surprisingly, an 1170 yield of ethyl trans ...
