Abstract: The members of a representative series of a, P-unsaturated ketones 1-10 have been reduced with solu-tions of sodium or lithium in hexamethylphosphoramide (HMP) or liquid” 3. In general, reductions with sodium in HMP yield reduction products containing a greater proportion of the less stable epimer than is found in reductions with sodium or lithium in liquid ammonia.
