Abstract

Studies in the flavanone series being carried out in this Laboratory have necessitated the synthesis of certain flavanones containing the 3', 4', 5'-trihydroxyphenyl group. Since this group could not be introduced by the use of gallaldehyde'in the usual Claisen-Schmidt condensation, due not only to the difficulty of obtaining the aldehyde in sizable quantities, but to its great instability in basic solution, it became necessary to prepare the analogous ...
