Abstract

Amides and lactams were converted to their corresponding thioamides and thiolactams employing anew protocol using hexamethyldisilathiane (TMhS). Oxophilic promoters were employed to generate Vilsmeier-type intermediates, the most efficient reagents being phosphorus oxychloride, triphosgene, and oxalyl chloride.
