Abstract: Reduction of (silox), TaCIZ (1, silox='Bu3SiO-) with Na/Hg in THF leads to a three- coordinate, Ta (II1) siloxide,(silox), Ta (2). Derivatization of 2 with excess 0, or H, provides (silox), Ta= O (3) and (silox), TaH2 (4), respectively. At 25 OC, carbonylation of 2 (0.1-1.0 atm) generates l/, 3 and 1/4 [(silo~) 3Talz (p-C2)(9, consistent with a CO uptake of 0.47 equiv.
