Abstract

Abstract The preparations of benzo [f] naphtho [1, 8-bc] thiepin-12-one, its 6-methyl and 6- methoxy derivatives and their corresponding sulfoxides and sulfones are described. They involve the coupling of suitable halogen naphthyl derivatives with thiophenoxides with the help of copper and the cyclization of the resulting acids with phosphorus pentoxide in benzene.
