Abstract
I smoothly with decarboxylation upon refluxing with concentrated hydrochloric acid, and the resultant &keto acids were obtained in good yield. Treatment of the products 1 with diethylamine led to a facile carbon-carbon bond cleavage, releasing the monosubstituted malonate and demonstrating the reversibility of these reactions.
