Abstract

Ketene dimethyl thioacetal monoxide (6) has found varied use as a formylmethyl synthon'since it reacts as a Michael acceptor with a variety of enolate anions to yield, after hydrolysis of the intermediate adduct, 1, Cdicarbonyl compounds in which the carbonyl group derived from 6 is an aldehyde.
