Abstract
A homologous series of azomesomesogens, 2"[4-(4'-n-alkoxybenzoyloxy)-3-chloro phenylazo] naphthalene, with lateral chloro group was synthesized. All twelve homologues of the series synthesized exhibit enantiotropic nematic mesophase. The plot of transition temperatures against the number of carbon atoms in the alkoxy chain shows a steady fall in nematic-isotropic transition temperature.
