Abstract

Conclusions Self-assembled films of the rigid-rod dithiols [a14 on gold are disordered, presumably because some of the rods lie and some stand on the surface. They have poor electrode blocking properties. In contrast, self-assembled films of the rigid-rod thiol-thiol acetates [n] 5 and ruthenium complexes [n] 6 are highly ordered, with the rods perpendicular to the surface, and have excellent blocking properties.
