Abstract

The use of 3, 3-dimethylbutanoic acid (XV)(reUB) instead of homologue VII permitted us to prepare by the same reaction. sequence shorter homologues of both esters VI and XlV. From acid XV and half-ester IX we thus obtained 3, 6, 6-trimethylheptanoic acid (XVI) which on Kolbe reaction with acid XI gave methyl 3, 7, 10, 10-tetramethyl-2-undecenoate (XVII).
