Abstract
The homolytic decomposition of various tertiary alkyl hypochlorites in carbon tetrachloride has been examined. The j3 scission of the intermediate talkoxy radicals waa determined by quantitative analysis of the mixture of alkyl chlorides. This method, involving intramolecular competition, yields the relative rates of formation of alkyl radicals from the fragmentation of talkoxy radicals.
