Abstract

Results Mulvaney and coworkers6 have reported the addition to and metalation of diphenylacetylene with n-butyllithium in ether to give trans-l-lithio-2-o-lithiophenyl-l-phenyl-1- hexene (lb). The low-temperature reaction of lb with trans-chlorovinyliodoso dichloride in ether gave in 26% yield 3-butyl-2-phenylbenziodolium chloride (Z), converted by metathesis to 3-butyl-2-phenylbenziodolium iodide (3)(Scheme I).
