Abstract

We have underway in this Laboratory a program of systematic evaluation of long chain aliphatic p-toluenesulfonates as alkylating agents for a variety of organic types. In the first paper, we reported the alkylation of phenols with n-octadecyl p-toluerlesulfonate. 2 The n- octadecyl aryl ethers were formed in 50-75% yields.
