Abstract
Potassium phenolate was prepared from 9.4 g. of phenol, dissolved in 150 cc. of absolute ether. Seven and five-tenths grams of the acid chloride was added and the mixture heated for thirty minutes. Eleven and three-tenths grams of diphenyl phthal- ate was isolated; the calculated amount of ester is 12.3 g. Sixteen grams of aluminum chloride was added, in portions, to a mixture prepared from 10 g. of the acid chloride, 9.4 g. of phenol and. 100 cc. of carbon disulfide. ...
