Abstract

The four allylic chlorides; 1, 1, 3-trichloro-2-methyl-l-propene, 1, 3-dichloro-2-butene, 1.3- dichloro-2-methyl-1-propene and l-chloro-2-(dichloromethylene)-cyclohexane were found to substitute into the nucleus of phenols in the absence of catalysts. 3, 3, 3-Trichloro-2-methyl-l- propene reacted with phenols in the absence of catalysts and yielded both C and 0 substituted products. The aluminum chloride catalyzed reaction between 1, 1, 3-trichloro-2 ...
