Abstract

Hindered rotation due to the partial double-bond character of the nitrogen-carbonyl bond is the cause of a form of cis-trans isomerism of N-alkylamides' and thioamideix2 This can usually be detected in the nmr s-cis' s-trans spectra of such compounds either by observation of both of the possible isomers, or of a single preferred form.
