Abstract
The first alkyltellurenyl halides were obtained as isolable but unstable compounds from halogenolysis of tellurophthalide (IC), a compound obtained in almost quantitative yield from 2-(bromomethy1) benzoyl chloride and sodium hydrogen telluride. The structures of the new compounds were confirmed by transformations to a single benzyl tellurocyanate that was independently synthesized.
