Abstract A surfact derivative of phenothiazine was synthesized which is capable of micelle formation in aqueous solution. Concomitantly with micellization, strong changes in the photochemical behaviour occur. In particular, monophotonic photoionization is only observed above the critical micelle concentration (CMC.).
