Abstract
Alkyl benzyl ethers and alkyl allyl ethers autoxidize readily at 100'in liquid phase to a- alkoxybenzyl and a-alkoxyallyl hydroperoxides, respectively. Conversion of the former to the corresponding aromatic aldehyde is effected by reduction; ferrous ion catalyzes gem- dehydration to the carboxylate ester. pem-Dehydration of a-alkoxysllyl hydroperoxide gives low yields of acrylate eater; a concomitant polymerization of the monomer in the presence ...
