Abstract
The reaction of a-methylstyrene at its reflux temperature in the presence of sodium and sodium-benzylsodium catalyst was investigated. The products of the reaction were composed of cumene (V) 18% by wt., p-terphenyl (VI) 2.4%, 1-methyl-1, 3- diphenylcyclopentane (VII) 32% and a trimer 19%.
