Abstract: Diazomethane is protonated by HOS02F in SOzCIF at-120 OC to yield exclusively methanediazonium ion (l), which decomposes at-85 OC to yield methyl fluorosulfate. When the more acidic HOSO, F/SbF, system is used, both 1 and the isomeric methylenediazenium ion (2) are formed.
