Abstract

Benzylmercaptoacetaldehyde has previously been found by Herbst4 among the products of a reaction between S-benzyl-1-cysteine and pyruvic acid and was characterized by several derivatives. Fromm and Landmanns mention it as one of the decomposition products obtained when 1, 2-dibenzylmercaptoethylene is treated with sulfuric and acetic acids.
