Abstract

1-hydroxyanthraquinone by chlorination and subsequent treat- ment of the 1-chloro-4-hydroxyanthraquinone with PCl5.18 1,4-Dichloroanthraquinone (1a) can also be prepared by acylation of 1,4-dichlorobenzene (3) with phthaloyl chloride (2) and subsequent heating of the 2-(2,5-dichlorobenzoyl) benzoic acid intermediate with H2SO4 (Scheme 1),19 or by treatment of 9,10-dihydroxy-2,3-dihydro-1 ,4-anthraquinone with PCl5.20,21 In the present work, we chose to prepare chloroanthra- ...
