Abstract
The synthesis of 3H, 5H-pyrrolo [3, 2-d] pyrimidines is of renewed interest because both 2- amino-3H, 5H-pyrrolo-[3, 2-d] pyrimidin-4-one (1, 9-deazaguanine) and its deamino derivative 2 (9-deazahypoxanthine) are potential synthetic precursors of the newly discovered immucillins 3 and 4, which are extremely potent inhibitors of purine nucleoside phosphorylase. 1
