Abstract

Summary Di-t-butyl-and di-t-amylbenzenes are dealkylated in the presence of ferric chloride and benzene to the corresponding mono derivatives. Di-sand di-prim-alkylbenzenes are not dealkylated under the same conditions. Hydrogen chloride is liberated during the reaction and ferric chloride is reduced to the ferrous state.
