Abstract
Among various Lewis acids, aluminium chloride (AlCl 3) was the most effective catalyst for the formation of the Reissert compound (2 1a, 5-benzoyl-4, 5-dihydro-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazolo [3, 4-d] pyrimidine-4-carbonitrile) of 1-phenyl-1H-pyrazolo [3, 4-d] pyrimidine (1 1) by using benzoyl chloride and trimethylsilyl cyanide (TMSCN) in anhydrous methylene chloride (CH 2 Cl 2).
