Abstract
A series of thiophene-based ruthenacycles were synthesized straightforwardly, employing imine units as directing groups. The cyclometalation event can be oriented to the heterocycle or to the aryl moiety as a function of the endo effect. These novel complexes react with I2, generating functionalized thiophenes.
