Abstract: Solvolysis rate constants, k,, for a series of (3-arylethyl and 1-aryl-2-propyl tosylates in solvents ranging from EtOH to CF3C02H were dissected into their aryl assisted (Fka) and aryl unassisted (k,) components in order to determine the effect of solvent on each reaction pathway.
