Abstract A task-specific imidazolium-based phosphinite ionic liquid (IL-OPPh2) was used as the dual solvent–reagent for the synthesis of E-cinamates and coumarin derivatives via the one-pot Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons–type reaction.
