Abstract

phorus oxychloride was added to a mixture consisting of 14 g.(0.073 mole) of 5-nitro-4- hydroxyquinazoline and 24 g.(0.12 mole) of phosphorus pentachloride. This mixture was heated under reflux for 2 hours, cooled for 1 hour, and the crystalline mass of 4-chloro-5- nitroquinazoline which formed removed by filtration.
