Abstract

Extraction of Dalbergia baroni Baker heartwood gave a new 4-phenylcoumarin, melannein (Ia) in addition to the known dalbergin (II), S-4-methoxydalbergione (III) and formononetin (IV). The constitution of melannein is established. Syntheses of O-dimethylmelannein and O- diethylmelannein are described.
