Abstract

The synthesis and directed dihydroxylation of a range of cyclic alkenes was investigated. Both homoallylic alcohols and homoallylic trihaloacetamides were found to be efficient directing groups, giving rise to good to excellent levels of remote asymmetric induction with OsO4–TMEDA.
