Abstract
Results The reaction of diethyl phenylphosphonate with phenylmagnesium bromide in the absence and in the presence of magnesium halides was investigated in tetrahydrofuran (THF), diethyl ether, and benzene. The principal part of our study was carried out using THF as the solvent since the reaction is homogeneous and can be followed quite nicely by gas chromatographic analysis of hydrolyzed aliquots taken at time intervals.
