Abstract
Abstract: The synthesis of commercially important hydroxybenzophenones by condensing phenols with benzotrichloride has been reported. Benzoylation is catalyzed by silica supported ferric chloride under solvent-free conditions. Hydroxybenzophenones are isolated in low to moderate yields.
