Abstract

Sodium 7-Hydroxybutyryltaurates (I).-The sodium salt of taurine was heated with an excess of y-butyrolactone for five hours at 115". The product was extracted with boiling ethanol and treated with Norite and the solvent removed in vacuo. The residue after washing with acetone to remo% e unreacted lactone was crystallized from ethanol from which it separated as deliquescent plates, mp 204-210'.
