Abstract
The reaction of triphenylmethylsodium with dichlorodiphenylmethane does not give pentaphenylethyl as previously reported, but when the anion reacts with 9, 9- dichlorofluorene, it does form the reported 9-tritylfluorenyl radical which has been characterized by ESR spectroscopy.
