Abstract

30 possible key intermediate was isolated. 6 The intermediate was characterized as the adduct 3a formed via the quinone methide 2a7-9 and anthrahydroquinone (AHQ), the twoelectron reduction product of AQ. 1 The structure of 3a was subsequently confirmed.'l* Also, the preparation of analogous AHQ and anthranol adducts with quinone methides derived from simple benzyl alcohols has recently been reported. llb
