Abstract
In order to prove the structures of 15 and 16 as well as to transform 9, 10, and 11 into derivatives of interest, we carried out the additional reactions shown in Scheme 111. Compounds 4, 9, 10, and 11 when treated with HBr in acetic acid gave 14-dehydroequilenin 3-methyl ether (14), which can be hydrogenated to eq~ ilenin.~ The hydroxy derivative 12 was transformed into 11 with trimethylchlorosilane and zinc.
