Abstract

1, 5-Pyrindine has been synthesized by treatment of 7-hydroxy-6, 7-dihydro-1, 5-pyrindine or its acetate ester with hot, concentrated sulfuric acid. The ester was prepared by treatment of 6, 7-dihydro-1, 5-pyrindine-N-oxide with acetic anhydride. Sodium bisulfite may be added to the rather unstable pyrindine in a manner apparently analogous to its addition to 2- vinylpyridine.
