Abstract
Summary A method for the identification of aromatic ethers by chlorosulfonylation with chlorosulfonic acid has been shown to yield excellent results. 2. Of forty-two aromatic ethers examined, thirty-six yield monosulfonyl chlorides readily converted to characteristic sulfonamides. 3. Eighteen previously unreported sulfonamides prepared in the course of this work have been characterized and structures tentatively assigned.
