Abstract
The spiropentyl cation I is a species of particular interest because of the possibility that the instability normally associated with cyclopropyl cations2 might be in part or in whole overcome by the stabilization associated with cyclopropylcarbinyl cations, depending upon the geometrical requirements for such stabilization.
